Thoughts from a Driftwood Desk, Monhegan Island, ME
Gerald Stanley Lee was a cottage owner and author on Monhegan Island, ME from 1906 to 1941. He wrote about his island experiences on his driftwood desk above what is today The Barnacle. The author will be reading passages from his writings about Monhegan along with the unpublished speech delivered at the 1914 Tercentenary Celebration of the Voyage of Captain John Smith given by Gerald Stanley Lee on August 6th, 1914.
(His wife Jennette was also a successful author and their daughter Geraldine the subject of two George Bellows portraits.)
